EVIT Students take leadership steps at SkillsUSA

East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) students know that it takes more than basic skills to compete in the workforce today. That's why 13 EVIT students took time from their Fall Break to attend the Fall Leadership Conference for SkillsUSA at the Phoenix Convention Center last week.

The state-wide Fall Leadership Conference is SkillsUSA's kick-off event for the school year. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Auto Student Proactive about Change

Sheralynn Sampson, a senior at Salt River High School was celebrated last week for both her excellent track record as a successful female student in a male dominated program, and her drive to bring change into this competitive field.

Sheralynn recently contacted the local auto celebrity Sarah "Bogi" Lateiner, owner of 180 Degrees Automotive, to visit EVIT and help the East Valley recruit more females in the Automotive industry.

Inspiring Young Children through Read for the Nation

Dozens of visitors flocked to the EVIT campus yesterday to participate in the national event, Read for the Nation. Pearson (a national media company) partnered with Mesa Head Start, along with other schools and libraries across the country, to set a new world record for the largest shared reading experience on a single day.


Students of Lisa Bradford's Early Childhood Education class, Chase Larson, Mountain View Senior and Skye Taylor, Skyline Senior were on hand to help these preschool students enjoy the children's classic, 'The Snowy Day.'

Read for the Nation was designed to help promote literacy among today's young learners.

EVIT Auto Tech hosts Clean Air Expo

East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is hosting "Odyssey" National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day on October 22nd. Hybrid cars are now! Come see the new and the classic cars that use alternative fuels.


The event is open to the public at EVIT, 1601 West Main Street in Mesa from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

National AFV Day Odyssey is the largest one-day event dedicated to promoting the use of alternative fuel vehicles. Coordinated nationally by the National Alternative Fuels Consortium and partnering with the U. S. Department of Energy's National Clean Cities Program, this biennial event endorses AFVs and advanced technology vehicles as the best choice for the future of America.

EVIT staff wonders "What happened to oranges?"

East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) students practiced the "stick" for blood draws on EVIT staff members. Angel Navarrette, Administrative Assistant at EVIT agreed to be an authentic test for future Medical Assistants. Historically, oranges have been used to practice the "stick" but, let's face it, oranges don't complain if it hurts or you miss the vein. The EVIT program insists upon the real thing.

Medical Assistants are in high demand in medical offices because they provide front office expertise and direct patient care.

It's Hell Week for EVIT Law Enforcement Students!

East Valley Institute of Technology Law Enforcement students faced Mesa Police Officers today for the start of "Hell Week." The training is preparation for the world they will face as police officers or mililtary personnel. Believe it, or not...they love it.

Students work out to the orders of their drill sergeant with squats, bends and sprints around the campus.
But the students really loved the strategy moves, like leaping over fences.

EVIT Law Enforcement students will meet all branches of the service during Hell Week. Ask them on Friday if they had a good time. I'll bet they say "Hoo Rah!"

EVIT Interior Design students head outside

East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) Interior Design students became "Exterior" Design students today as they studied and analyzed the outside of EVIT buildings.The morning students took advantage of comfortable temperatures and studied and drew the EVIT architecture, paying attention to spatial differentiation and depth perception. The afternoon students stayed inside and took in the tall ceilings in the lobby of the Administration Building for their studies.
