Students honored by Rotary clubs, EVIT board

Congratulations to this month's rotary students of the month: Tia Sirrine and Cody Milligan!

The students both were honored at the EVIT governing board meeting on Monday night, although Cody was not able to attend.

Tia, a student in EVIT's Certified Nursing Assistant program, was named the Mesa Rotary Student of the Month. She told board members that she fell in love with the health field after taking a basic anatomy class at her home high school and is excited to pursue her future at EVIT.

"I have a lot of high expectations for myself," Tia told the board. "I will go onto college and into the medical field."

Tia's teacher, Marie Rozell, said Tia has already taken two exams this school year and is excelling in the class.

"I'm very privileged to have her in my classroom," Ms. Rozell said.

Interior design teacher Kim Foulger also attended the governing board meeting to brag about her student, Cody, who was named the Mesa East Rotary Student of the Month.

"He's just a really dynamic student," Ms. Foulger said. "He continually shows enthusiasm and has the basic, true talent of a visual designer. He has a contagious and positive attitude that shines in my class."

Another EVIT rotary student of the month!

Pharmacy Tech student Briana Reiniger was honored at Monday's governing board meeting as the Mesa East Rotary Student of the Month! Here is Briana, with her teacher, Gale Landau:


Briana told the governing board members that she chose to enroll in the pharmacy tech program because she really wants to help the community. And Ms. Landau described her as the type of student that makes her want to teach each day.

"She not only excels academically, but she also has so much integrity," Ms. Landau told the governing board.

EVIT honors Rotary Students of the Month

Two students were honored by the EVIT governing board as Rotary Students of the Month at Monday's meeting.

First up was Jennifer Reyes, a senior in Tony Garcia's law enforcement class, who was honored as the Mesa East Rotary Club Student of the Month. Mr. Garcia described Jennifer as a student who struggled in the program during her junior year, but has improved vastly this year and was recently accepted into the Explorer Program.

"I just felt like I've got to change; this year is going to be different," Jennifer told board members.

Next up was Marc Reidhead, a junior in Lou Ann Hoffman's medical assisting program, who was honored as the Mesa Rotary Club Student of the Month. Ms. Hoffman described Marc as a student she relies on and considers to be a great role model for others in the class.

"I wish all of my students were as easy to teach as Marc," Ms. Hoffman told the board. "He's wonderful. I truly enjoy having him in class."

Two radio students honored by Rotary

Two radio broadcasting students were honored at last night's governing board meeting as the Mesa East Rotary Club's Students of the Month.


Breanna Bullis (left) and Nicole Bird are both second-year students in Steve Grosz's radio broadcasting program. He describes them both as shining stars who are an example to other students.

Breanna and Nicole put on a bit of a show at the board meeting, challenging the board president, Garry Hays, and superintendent Dr. Sally Downey to a game of "Truth or Trash." The girls gave a "fact," and the two had to figure out whether it was a true statement.

For example: "Ashley is the most popular name in the world (trash)" or "Men have better vision than women (truth)."

Dr. Downey won.

But Breanna and Nicole also had a chance to tell board members what EVIT has meant to them.

Breanna said when she first started at EVIT, she wasn't sure what she wanted to do after high school, and she liked the flexibility and variety of the school's programs.

"EVIT has really prepared me for the future," she said.

And Nicole said that EVIT helped her get over her natural shyness and taught her a better balance of work and fun in class.

Congrats to both girls for being top notch students!

Rotary Student of the Month

Congratulations to Jesse Knox, EVIT automotive student and the Mesa East Rotary Club’s September student of the month!

Jesse was nominated for the honor by his first-year automotive instructor, Derek Hall, who said Jesse’s positive attitude and willingness to always learn something new made him stand out in his class.

“I wish I had a classroom of Jesses,” Mr. Hall said.

Jesse was honored by the EVIT governing board at the Monday, Oct. 12 meeting. He told board members that he credits his education at EVIT with landing him a part-time job at Purrfect Auto Service.

“EVIT definitely taught me everything I know,” he said.

Jesse hopes to intern at a Toyota dealership and then go on to become certified in Toyotas.

Congratulations to EVIT fire science student Jake McDaniel, named as this month's Mesa Rotary Club Student of the Month.

Jake is a second-year EVIT student who also attends Red Mountain High School in Mesa.
