The EVIT Health Foundations class held their annual, end-of-the-year Fly Swatter Tournament Championship on Wednesday.
Sharon Black and Jon Howell's classes challenged each other to the only medical terminology face-off (that I know of) that involves fly swatters. I wasn't sure what to expect when I showed up for the afternoon classes' competition, but I saw this on the white board:
And students in t-shirts made just for the challenge:
One student at a time from each class would come forward, and they would be given a medical definition. The first student to "swat" the correct definition earns a point for their team. Over the course of the year, the students have learned 350 medical terms, so this is no easy feat.
There were three rounds of intense play:
And the winner, by one point ... Mr. Howell's class! (But that's ok, because Ms. Black's morning class won by five points.)
All the students had a great time and got together for a group photo:
